The Chestatee scorecard, read properly: where the shots go

The short answer

Chestatee’s par 71 splits 36 out and 35 in. The front nine carries two par 5s and two par 3s; the back nine has three par 3s, which is where its missing stroke goes. The three hardest holes on the card, the 4th, 13th and 8th, are all long par 4s, and the par-3 15th is ranked easiest.

A scorecard is a map of where a round is won and lost. Chestatee’s tells a clear story.

A 36-35 course

The club’s card is par 36 out and 35 in. The par 5s are the 1st, 9th, 10th and 16th, and the par 3s the 3rd, 7th, 11th, 15th and 17th. The back nine’s extra par 3 is the stroke it gives up.

The hard holes are long par 4s

By handicap rank, the 4th (rank 1), 13th (2) and 8th (3) are the toughest. From the Blue tees they measure 430, 425 and 450 yards. The club itself calls the 8th one of the most challenging par 4s in the state.

The signature hole is short

The club’s signature 17th is a par 3 over the Chestatee River where it meets Lake Lanier: 190 yards from the Black tees and 155 from the White.
